Who we are:
Our journey into sustainability started after the birth of our first child. As any parents, we started researching what was the best for him, and coincidentally, it was almost always the most eco-friendly alternative.
The high carbon footprint from unnecessary transportation practices and plastic pollution all became important topics in our decision making. As many families living in Thailand, water consumption caused us headaches as we had to give in and buy imported mineral water with a lot of downsides for the environment (foot-print/one-way bottles), or buy local mineral water in plastic bottles or filtered water in one way glass bottles (health and environmental concerns).
For these reasons, we decided to create something which we were missing from our years living in Germany: high quality mineral water, in reusable glass bottles. We want to give a new answer to the ecological nonsense of transporting water over thousands of kilometers in single-use containers with no oversight on what plastic is used or how the water is treated.
We want to provide a water with the absolute minimal footprint on the environment, and treat nature, people and communities we operate in fairly and in the healthiest way possible.
In our quest for pristine mineral water, we were drawn to the magnificent valley nestled between the Sai Yok and Erawan National Parks.
As we travelled, we sought the wisdom of the local villages, asking about their knowledge of natural springs. The old villagers, the true keepers of the land’s history, shared tales of countless life-giving springs flowing along the mighty Sai Yok River.
They recounted stories of members of the Royal family visiting the area and pointed to classic Thai literature, like the famous Nirat Sai Yok, which immortalized the river and its many springs that bring sustenance to the valley. The poetic travelogue is part of a collection of writings from a Royal journey, including the work of HRH King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and other poets of his era.
This rich heritage and connection to life inspired us to name our mineral water: Sai Yok Springs.
The Geology of Timeless Purity:
Upon discovering a truly clear and pristine spring for our initial bottling plant, our journey didn’t end. We returned with a specialist team, led by a University of Cambridge hydrogeologist, to identify deeper, untouched aquifers for an artesian well.
The Sai Yok area in Kanchanaburi Province is part of Thailand’s Western Mountains, a region renowned for its complex geology, featuring spectacular karst topography of towering limestone mountains.
While the surface geology largely consists of Permian limestone formations, which host the region’s famous caves and waterfalls, our quest for deeply protected water led us to older, deeper rock layers.
Our commitment to unparalleled purity led to the development of our second bottling plant, which draws its water from a nearly 300-meter-deep well into ancient geological formations of the Jurassic period. This immense depth taps into an aquifer sealed by these ancient layers, ensuring that every bottle of Sai Yok Springs is filled with water that is as pure and timeless as the history of its valley.
